Any suggestions other than a reinstall?

Specs: Windows XP
Grrr. Looks like I am going to have to reformat/reinstall XP all over again. Sure there is some sort of virus/trojan, albeit none of the usual are returning anything save for ad cookies. CPU is going up to 100% at times. Machine is whirring, as if there is a process of some sort, or a memory leak? I cannot even seem to do a system restore, it won't let me. And I am not experienced enough to try Hijack this. Anyone think of anything else, short of a reinstall?

Just start with the basics, download and install, update malwarebytes, run a quick scan and remove all it finds.

Used Malware Byes, Spybot, Super Anti Spy etc, not finding much. However, if the machine is infected it could be coming back with 'clean' reports, I am thinking?

if you had added that in your origional post it would not be guesswork ;-)

Try
1- Trojan Remover
2- Hitman Pro
remove all they find
