an additional Chrome plugin is required virus

November 20, 2011 at 11:08:59
Specs: Windows 7
Using Chrome 15.0.874.121 m i get a bar appear below my bookmarks toolbar saying "an additional plugin is required to display some elements on this page" with a button saying click here to install or something.
Sounded suspicious, and i couldn't remember what the actual notification for that looked like, so had a search around, see if there was a known cause for this, other than a genuine situation.
couldn't find anything, so clicked install.
the bar went away, but nothing else appeared to happen.
D/C form the network, and ran all spybot, and got found a whole host of spyware.
Adviva
BurstMedia
CasaleMedia
DoubleClick
FastClick
etc etc

has anyone else encountered this?
anyone know how to stop that notification bar appearing? as it still does this despite running spybot and AVG free.
the notification bar only appears whilst i am on google.com or my gmail.

"the notification bar only appears whilst i am on google.com or my gmail"

Well Google.com doesn't need a plugin, didn't that alone make you suspicious?
never install a plugin unless it tells what plugin it actually is. Genuine ones will always tell you the name of the plugin you need.

It did make me suspicious, which is why i went away and tried to find anything out if this was a virus or not.
Having not found anything, and on the basis that the notification looked the same as normal (from what i could remember), i decided to click it.

I have removed all the spyware from my computer that it installed when i did that, but the notification still appears.

Does anyone know any more about this, and how to remove it?

I use a couple of browsers, as I do a bit of web development. Chrome has to be one of them.

I have been having the same issue, specifically with Gmail and Chrome which is odd as they are both Google Products.
