"I am always so careful to custom install any new programme to avoid such issues"

As you can see from your logs, you had a lot of stuff installed, that you did not know had been installed.
A lot of programs, now give you the choice to install toolbars & other during the install. Either uncheck these items during install, or use Custom install. No more click, click during an install, you have to read after each click.
I use Softpedia, down the bottom of the page, they make you aware what Ad-supported programs the author of the program has included.
Sample pages
http://www.softpedia.com/get/CD-DVD...
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multim...
Users are advised to pay attention while installing this ad-supported application:
· Offers to change the homepage for web browsers installed in the system
· Offers to change the default search engine for web browsers installed in the system
· Offers to install StartNow Toolbar that the program does not require to fully function

Do you mean this one… Ad-Aware

http://www.lavasoft.com

There are a lot of very similar utilities out there with a "very similar name"; and some of them are anything but what they claim to be…

The lavasoft site is the one to go for.

Also download (and install): malwarebytes

http://www.malwarebytes.org/lp/malw...

The link above is the freebie version…

Possibly install that first if you're having problems downloading (the genuine/real) Ad-Aware?

Thankyou for your reply ...I have used the Ad - Aware lavasoft programme for years,so no not that one.

Adwcleaner by Xplode is the one I meant, sorry for not being clear. This programme is fantastic and detected and removed Delta Search and Snapdo but it is out of date and I can't upgrade to the new version because of virus intervention.

We will need to dismantle the infection bit by bit, that may allow the repeat use of programs, which may in turn pick up more.

Were you able to get Malwarebytes to run?

If so, Copy & Paste the contents of the log please.

Thankyou so much for your detailed response just received ... I shall have to deal with this tomoz. now. Seems quite complex so will deal with it when brain in full gear !

I should also let you know (I don't know if this has any bearing on this subject) that the following :- " search.conduit.com/?ctid=CT3323737&octid=EB_ORIGINAL_CTID&SearchSource=55&CUI=&UM=2&UP=SP3524B2C4-2776-45A3-99C9-E371F365603C&SSPV= " appears in my settings under Appearance - between 'Show Home Button' & 'Always show the bookmarks bar' both of which are ticked.

Just in case this was important ? ...

Thanks Again !

That's better, both those logs are clean.

Run Adwcleaner again & post the log, then tell me if you still have Delta Search.

I have to go back to work now ... but as you will see everytime Adwcleaner is asked to clean and reboots the system Delta Search remains on Google ..........

As I use Chrome some of the time I was/am more interested in discovering what can/does ail it it - if one is not careful; thus my interest in this one - and following (as best I can…) Johnw"s posts here.

And have to salute JohnW for his diligence and support here… Frequently note his suggestions are in depth and invariably very effective/successful; and certainly he appears to have helped you clean out all manner of "stuff" you didn't know was there.

A lot of what he is upto and into is beyond my areas of knowledge…

Nonetheless out of academic interest I dun a wee trawl via google for:

delete delta search engine from chrome

and found a whole slew of stuff about the nuisance; a couple of them are below - essentially (I think) the same resolution in different forms

http://info.delta-search.com/uninst...

http://productforums.google.com/for...

What puzzles me though that if the pest removers (Adw, Ad Aware, and the like) are doing as they allege… how this Delta item is able to persist… Especially if the resolutions linked above do get rid of it? Or do those resolutions above merely "disable' it - rather than actually remove it?

Hopefully Johnw can advise on this aspect too?

At last I have found the solution !!! ...

Hello,
I am from Delta Search Support Department. I am sorry to hear about your frustrations with the removal of Delta Search, I can help you take care of it right away.
In order to remove Delta, all you need to do is locate your browser from the selection below and follow the steps.
If you have any problems, just send us a message at (REMOVED email address) and we will be happy to provide further assistance.

If you're using Google Chrome:
1. Open Google Chrome, click on the "Options" icon by the right side of the address bar; click on Settings:
2. Under "On startup", choose the option "Open a specific page or set of pages."
3. Click on "Set pages" and delete Delta's page from the list by clicking the small "x" icon besides it.
To change the Search Engine in Google Chrome:
1. Open Google Chrome, click on the "Options" icon by the right side of the address bar;
2. Click on Settings > Under "Search" click on "Manage search engines...":
If you see Delta Search as default, please click on a different option (Google, Bing etc.), make it default
3. Remove Delta by clicking the small 'x'
Also check if any Delta extension were installed in Google Chrome:
1. Open Google Chrome, click on the "Options" icon on the right side of the address bar:
2. Go to Tools > Extensions.
3. Remove any Delta extension (Translator, Toolbar) from the list by clicking on the small trash can icon that will appear when you point the cursor over it.
If you're using Internet Explorer:
1. Go to the Start Menu. Select Control Panel → Add/Remove Programs.
If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, select Control Panel → Uninstall a Program.
2. Search for Delta toolbar on IE in the list. Select the program and click the Remove button.
If you are using Windows Vista/7, click Uninstall up near the top of that window.
3. Open Internet Explorer. Go to Tools >> Manage Add-ons.
4. Select Toolbars and Extensions. Uninstall everything related to Delta Ltd. from the list: Delta toolbar, Delta toolbar helper, Delta IE plugin, DeltaToolbar.com, etc.
5. Select Search Providers. First, choose Bing search engine and make it your default search provider (set as default). Then select Search the web (Delta) and click Remove button to uninstall it (lower right corner of the window).
6. Go to Tools → Internet Options. Select General tab and click Use default button or enter your own website, e.g. gooog.com instead of search.Delta.com. Click OK to save the changes.
If you're using Mozilla Firefox:
1. Open Mozilla Firefox. Go to Tools >> Add-ons.
2. Select Extensions. Uninstall the following extension: Delta 1.1.9 to remove the Delta Toolbar.
3. Click the small magnifier icon at the right top corner. Select Manage Search Engines from the list.
4. Select Search the web (Delta) and click Remove button. Click OK to save the changes.
5. Go to Tools >> Options. Under the General tab reset the startup homepage.

Hope it solved your problem!
