Adaware causes my CPU to run at 100%

September 21, 2010 at 06:57:06
Specs: Windows Vista
I'm having a problem with my laptop running really slowly. I checked the performance and realized that my CPU is maxed out all the time. I looked into it, and the main culprit was my Adaware program! I thought this was supposed to help. After removing Adaware, my computer is running much faster. Am I making a mistake by not having Adaware on my computer? I also don't have Spybot, Spywareblaster or CCleaner, but I'm nervous that having more programs might make my computer run slow again. Any ideas?

if u don't use disable it(msconfig). Ccleaner is a very good soft (it won't make the system run slow), which anti virus/anti malware do u have?

Thanks for the advice. I downloaded CCleaner, and it doesn't seem to be slowing my computer down at all. The antivirus program I have is McAfee.

McAfee sucks, get rid of it. Try Microsoft's free Security Essentials:

http://www.microsoft.com/security_e...

As for CCleaner, it doesn't run in the background so there's no way it's going to slow your system. Just remember to use it daily. Run the cleaner & the registry scanner - remove everything they find. You can also click Tools > Startup to see the list of programs that load in the background when you start the machine. Very few of them are necessary. I don't know what you have installed on your system, but there's no need for programs like Yahoo, AIM, Google, iTunes, RealPlayer, Adobe, camera, scanner, printer, etc to be loaded. Start them as you need them then close them when you're done.

Hello, i am having a lot of the same problems as you and i was wondering if anyone has any opinions of kaspersky internet security? Everytime i get on my laptop and try to get on the internet or move to another page the cpu maxes out and i am left with a slow brick on my lap. After a while it will get back to a workable speed, but when i change i have to wait forever. My other computers seem to be fine. Any ideas?

AND if nothing is working..
u can start your pc in safe mode by clicking F8 during boot.
F8 will stop all the background processes and services including the virus/adware/malware.
N then clean your pc by scanning with microsoft security essentials.
This would definately help.
