" there is work on there we cant afford to loose please help?"
Only safe way is take the hard drive out & slave it to another comp.
Recover the work that he can't afford to lose, then when that is done, let us know & we can advise further.SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Hard Drive Adapter

One can sometimes USB stick boot, numerous rescue ISOs exit, and copy the data folders onto the same and/or a 2nd USB stick.
Download and burn to a DVD the ISO for ubuntu. It's at. Ubuntu.com. Boot with the dvd and it will load Ubuntu (a Linux variant) into RAM only. The hard drive is then available as a resource and files can be accessed and copied to external media. Typically dvd, but an external hard drive too is nice(r)..,
Once files are safely copied/duplicated off the system, you can more comfortably set about resolving the current problem...
Thank you. I took to a friend of a friend and he tried to get stuff off hard drive but it wouldn't work eg for ages it would go to read did rather than hard drive. He had the linex dvd. In the end he managed to find the comp had 99 corruptions. So he will try and sort weekend and get stuff off to reset comp.
Thank you to all for your answers
