April 30, 2013 at 13:31:18
Specs: Windows 7
I have windows 7 but need to use batch file to search registry for "Whatever" at where [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E999-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE1234}] and give me exactly location it found like [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E999-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE1234}\0003]

So i can use this location to add keyword in this .reg
Thanks

Have a great day

Have you considered REG QUERY?

Mike, I tried

REG Query HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E999-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE1234} /V /F "Whatever" /S /E
But i get 0 match(es) found ???
I saw it in registry at
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E999-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE1234}\0003]

Have a great day

Yah, reg query, but your specs look like they might be conflicting or too strict. I would just use the /s switch, to begin with. Examine the result, and THEN refine it if you need to using the /f with a pattern. /v and /e switches appear to me to be too strict. I always have to tweak with reg query, and I'm only on XP (which has about half the options as seven does.) You could also, (again, using the /s switch) pipe through "find" or "findstr" to isolate the item you want. "Start broad, then narrow down", not the other way:
REG Query HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E999-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE1234} /s
to gather all subkeys (and values).
