rpg save system?

Specs: Windows 7
how do you make a saving system in batch? this is for a rpg'ish game thing im making just to test it out, i want it to like save the stats, health, money etc etc etc, but how do i do it?
i got a few theories:
md > save.txt
echo health=45 > save.txt

then for loading it:
i don't know :)

you could save each stat into a txt file

you could even use something like this
::allow the user to define the charactor name then use the name for thier stat folder
set /p charactorname="what is your charactor name? "
::this would be to save information about a stat
echo %health% > c:\rpgfolder\stats\%charactorname%\health.txt
::this is to recall information about that charactor
set /p health=<c:\rpgfolder\stats\%charactorname%\health.txt
set /a health=%health%
