Replace a character by position in .BAT file

Specs: Windows 7
I have multiple strings with multiple embedded periods, like this example:

and I want to replace selected periods--in this case, at displacements 5, 13, 18, and so on.

I know I can split the string (0,4) and (6) into two fragments and then concatenate them with a space; is there some way I can do it with SET or some other command?

One solution is to find ".", then use FOR to replace "g.A", "5.t", "e.y".
