Hi all,

I wanted to rename many files we currently have in a folder.

The names want to be changed from

"J006f.jpg" to "0087-A32.jpg"
"G034.jpg" to "0102-B32.jpg"

Basically in excel I have all the orginal names in column A, and all the new names in column B.

This is as far as I could get./
I was looking for software to import the excel file and it do it.

Does anyone know of any such free software?

I searched google and found many different ways that just confused me.

I have no idea about scripts in excel, I only use it for data and adding up numbers.

ANy help much appreciated.
Kind regards

The following method uses a batch script to achieve what you want.

First of all save your Excel sheet with the two columns as a CSV file (text separated by commas) in the folder that holds the files to be renamed. Then paste in Notepad the below script and save it as XLREN.BAT

:: XLREN.BAT Usage: xlren  Folder_Name
@echo off
pushd %*
for %%x in (*.csv) do for /F "tokens=1,2 delims=," %%j in (%%x) do ren "%%~j" "%%~k"
:: End_Of_Batch

Now at prompt type

xlren Your_Folder_Name

and you are done.
