Opening Programs in Python?

Specs: Ubuntu12.04 Windows7
I've been learning Python, and I've made an English to Pig Latin translater, on Ubuntu 12.04 and WIndows, and I don't understand how I can run it, how I can I run that code in the Terminal/command line thing for Python, Can someone help me please! :)

If your python program is in file, on Linux,if python is installed, simply execute:

I open it like that on Linux, terminal opens for a second..then closes, any ideas? :)

Does your program execute properly within the python interpreter? If so, it looks like terminal closes to quickly for you to see the output. I would try placing a sleep command after the output statements:

import time

print "hello world"
# sleep 5 seconds

I tried your Hello World test. still closes instantly I'm going to test it on Windows to see if it that works
