MS-Dos to disconnect user from shared files in XP

March 14, 2012 at 09:06:56
Specs: Windows XP
I need to script a batch file to disconnect users from several MS-Access database front ends, so that the backend can update. There are those who go home with the file still open, causing the early morning update to fail, and causing the delay of use by several hours in the morning when we have to manually disconnect everyone and run the update. Plus there are ten front-ends that need to be closed/disconnected. I tried "OpenFiles.exe /Disconnect" with it's different parts with no luck.
Does anyone have a good script, because I can't add any programs to the company computer?
Thanks
Ed

net file 12345678 /close does the same thing as openfiles.

What was the problem with using openfiles?

The batch file would run through the motions with openfiles, and we tried several different parameters, but the database connection would not be severed/ the file would not be closed. I tried closing the back end first... no luck. Then went for the front end... no luck.
Will try net file.
Thanks
Ed
