I need to run MS PowerPoint Viewer remotely?

Microsoft / Powerpoint viewer

Specs: Windows 7, dual core/4GB
I am trying to run PowerPoint Viewer remotely and have it display in the foreground on the remote computer. I wrote a batch for this and am trying to use nircmd.exe to get it done. The batch works locally or VNC, but I would like to launch it via Telnet or come command line that I can automate. I can launch it via Telnet but it doesn't display on the remote computer.

We are trying to setup a system to run PowerPoint viewer on a remote machine that will display on a large flat screen in a public area.

Thanks for any ideas.

Hi dave,
can you clarify...is the script on the remote machine or not?

either way, they best way i can think to automate it would be via a scheduled task.
get a task set up, and either have it set to the time that you want, or if needed you can always goto the computer share, into scheduled tasks and just click run.

Hope this helps

I got this working using a batch and psexec.exe. Although, for some reason PPV stopped working soon after? It now either says file is not compatible with .ppt and .pptx or file is too large, even with a 38K file? All the run fine if I walk up to the machine and use a GUI.

I tried downloading a trial version of Office which is way overkill, but we would buy a copy if need be. Although, Office now runs in a virtual machine and the instructions for running the full PP app from command line don't work.

I am sorry, but I feel like MS is melting down. Their Office products used to work as promised. I think I am going to have to try to make a slide show from a PDF using Acrobat and display it from a command line using their viewer. I read yesterday that this is possible. Another solution might be to use Google Docs and run it in a browser.

I just need to run a looping display on a remote monitor from a batch so I can automate (simplify) the change of slideshows for my colleagues.
