I'm trying to make a .vbs script program that connects to the internet, retrieves data, and displays it. Are there and codes that will let you at least connect to the internet and retrieve data?

I'm saying to for it to download an HTML page, interpret the data (searching for keywords), and display it in a message box.

You can use Internet Explorer to access websites, and though your script, scrape the data you need. Typically this is what someone's looking to do. You can also use something like msxml2.xmlhttp to get the actual HTML file.

IE method:

Set ie = CreateObject("InternetExplorer.Application")
Do While ie.Busy
  WScript.Sleep 100
Loop
ie.Visible = True 'Optional

ie.Navigate "http://www.google.com"
Do
  WScript.Sleep 100
Loop While ie.Busy

'Your code here

ie.Quit
