Solved Dialog Box during shutdown -L

October 14, 2012 at 11:57:56
Specs: Windows XP Pro

I am able to create a pop up message/dialog box when I use a batch command/file:

shutdown -s -f -c "my comment."

but when I use:

shutdown -L -f -c "my comment."

my comment will not show up.

As you can see I want to show a dialog box before the computer logs off. I am setting up a batch file to use with task scheduler.

-L (capital L) is not a valid switch. You can only use lowercase letter.

Well, yes, I know this...but this ---->l is not as clear as this------>L

✔ Best Answer
For Windows Vista+:

msg %username% /w "Your message" & logoff

For XP, make sure the messenger service is running:

net send %username% "Your message" & logoff

I did not test the XP one.

have you tried

shutdown -f -c "my comment."

The /d, /t, and /c options are also not available with /l.

should automatically log off, I think its the default
