Specs: Windows Vista, C2D, 2GB
how do you write a batch that will take original filenames of the form *DEF*.avi and rename it as *JKL*.avi?

eg:
abcDEFghi.avi
->
abcJKLghi.avi

Thanks!

To rename files with ANY chars in positions 4-6:

abc???ghi.avi abcJKLghi.avi

If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.

ok but what about the case when you only want to replace the string that matches, which can be at any location, as opposed to any chars in a fixed position -- anyone knows how to do that?
