Palm M500 fails to run

June 16, 2009 at 23:32:46
Specs: Macintosh
I have a Palm M500 that has been off for over a year
because the power button locked up. I finally got
around to getting a new battery and freeing the button
but now I am given a new set of issues.

1) the usb doesn't work
2) the pilot refuses to turn on on battery alone.
3) on battery alone is usually do not show power on
the green power light.
4) when connected to usb it can turn on but freezes
up on the Palmpowered screen 85% of the time
5) when it does boot up it will run for a few
seconds/minutes then freeze up after calibration or
looking at an OS application
6) it prefers to run if i remove it from the hard case
with just the screen and mother board out.

any help would be rather nice, or else i'm throwing it in
the trash.

As for the power issues, it may be a case of bad soldering to the board. A Tungsten(tm) I once looked at randomly rebooted, and would not retain data. Turned out that the new battery + everyday use had broken it.

And, if you do not mind the power issues, my best recommendation is to buy a 32 MB SD card and a card reader. This should solve the sync problems, and other than looking at the inside of the computer, is the best advice I can give you.

Since when you take the case off, it likes it, it is a configuration issue, and you need to make sure that everything is properly connected, so that when the pressure is re-applied upon popping it back together, no wires or pieces are pinched.
