Alphaserver 4100 needs to connect windows to VMS

Specs: Windows 7
I am the network admin for a small manufacturing company. We had our ordering system on a VAX years ago. We switched back in 2007 however we still need info from the VAX.

I would love to simply connect the thing to the windows network and extract the files from it so we can build a SQL system around what is on there.

How would I go about something like this? All I know is that is an OpenVMS system and I think the version is 7.1

I have googled around but this is a new beast to me.

You will need to have either UCX or TCPIP for the VAX for starts. A combination of FTP over IP or using a product like Reflections (terminal emulator) again over IP to connect a "terminal" to the VAX. Reflections has file transfer capability as well.

You seem to imply that you do not know OpenVMS much if at all. If that is the case, I would suggest that you hire a consultant to set this up for you. It will be less expensive in the long run if you have no VAX experience. Where are you located?

There are too many unanswered questions here, for example, how is the data you require stored on the VAX? Database? Flat files? Indexed files?

Perhaps a phone conversation would be helpful to narrow this request down a bit...
