Allow me to offer you a posting tip:

When posting in a help forum, especially an Excel help forum, you need to be really careful and very accurate with what you post. Since the only thing we have to base our answers on is what you tell us, what you tell us better be what you mean.

First, if you really have "Mar18 in A1, you are going to get a #VALUE! error because of the double quote. Now, I'm guessing that you don't really have a double quote as the first character in A1, but once I start guessing about what you really have, I could go down a rabbit hole really quick. So...I'm not going to guess.

Second, if you really have July17 in A2, you are not going to get 9-ju;-05 in B2. The YEAR function is not going to return a lower case j or a semi-colon. Again, I'm pretty sure that that is not really the result that you have in B2, but once again, I'm not going to guess at what you really have.

If you wouldn't mind either editing your post or reposting what you really have in those cells, we'll take a shot at answering your question (even though I'm pretty sure I already know the answer).
