✔ Best Answer
from what I can find, it looks like that software is 15 years old. Try running it in windows 98 compatiblity mode.

http://www.libreoffice.org/

If the software has installed successfully you can right-click on the icon and left-click on Properties; at the top-right you will see a Compatibility tab; this will give you the option to run in Windows 95, 98 and NT mode, 256-colors, ME, etc.

Thanks for your response. I followed your suggestion. Then attempts to run causes screen to black out and pc freeze. You are correct, I am sure it is a problem of running an old program on a newer OS. One thing I should have mention in my original post was that I recently defragmented the C drive. Will try to do a fix of XP PRO via its install disk. Thanks again

Thanks for your response. Re your question WP8 has been my word processor for many years and I have many, many documents in it. I likely will move to a newer WP version when my PC settles down. New information about my problems: I uninstalled WP8 and reinstalled it; the new install behaves same as old one. I have found that another old program, Photodeluxe, also will not load. Trying to use it results in a grey patterned screen and then nothing; cannot cancel it, must kill it via Task Manager. I haven't checked all the other programs to see if they work. Incidentally, I have a clone of the OS (post defrag, unfortunately) on a separate disk, will try it soon. Also, as far as possible, I always save all non-system and program files on a third disk. Thanks again for your interest.

Thanks again for your help and interest. The old programs seem to be working under the OS clone so all's well that ends.
