A user in our business has reported that every word doc he has gives the same error when he tries to open, some docs are over 4 years old, some are only a week old.
The error happens wether he double clicks file, open file from within word - even with "open and repair" option.

"The file XXXX cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents. Details - Microsoft office cannot open this file because some parts are missing or invalid"

click ok then:

"Word found unreadable content in XXXX. Do you want to recover the contents of this document? If you trust the source of this document, click Yes."

Does this happen when other users log into the computer and try to open the files? Are the files on a network share?

Does this happen for other users or just the one?
If just the one, then there is probably something unique about his Office setup.

Try this command line switch:

1. Click Start.
2. Click Run.
3. In the run box, type: winword /a
4. Click OK, or press Enter.

The /a command line option starts Word and prevents add-ins and global templates (including the Normal template) from being loaded automatically.

If everything works OK you now know it is one of the Macros or Add-ins that are installed on the machine.

Sounds like is corrupt. Just rename it to something else, and Word will recreate it the next time it opens.
