I have some documents in word format from a work I did in 2008. anytime I try to open any of them, it will be blank but the total number of pages will show indicating the information is still there

How do I recover this documents?

What version of Word? If you try and print, do you see the content in Print Preview?

Did you check that the Font Color has not been changed to White?

Like I said, the document was prepared in 2008- (probably with MS word 2003). The doc is equally blank in print preview.
Talking about font color, I even changed it to red to no avail.

Do a word count.

0 = empty doc
>0 = something's hiding the contents

At least you'll know whether to keep looking or not.

Try opening the document with a regular editor like JEdit or even Notepad.

When you first open the doc there will be a great deal of what appears to be
garbage data, that is normal, just keep scrolling down and you should eventually
get to the actual text of the file, if there is any.

You can then just Copy and Paste into a new document.
