Word 2003 cannot save files (error messages)

Microsoft Office word 2003
July 12, 2010 at 10:46:31
Specs: Windows XP
Hello dear,
I have Office 2003 sp3 on XP home sp3 fat32. I got problems saving files in Word getting error messages like:
- word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error.
- There is an unrecoverable disk error on file ~WRL3822.tmp.
- There is not enough memory or disk space to complete the operation.
- There is not enough memory or disk space to display or print the picture.
I lose my files. I checked spywares, viruses, check disk, updates, anti-virus and Internet security program F-Secure (made files in Word with F-Secure on and off, problem persists), reinstalled office pocket. Nothing helped.
Would you please help me? I am stuck. I couldn't find a reply to this problem on this website.
Thanks for your time,
Johanna Maria

Have you tried a Detect & Repair?

On the Task Bar,
Help
Detect & Repair

It might also be your global template is corrupt or there is something loading automatically in your Word Startup folder that is misconfigured or corrupt.

To check:
Go to Start
Click on Run.
Type: winword.exe /a

This launches Word with a clean, empty template and no add-ins.

If Word works OK, it is probably either a bad normal.dot file or a corrupt add-in

To get a new clean template, close Word and do a search of your computer for normal.dot file and delete it. If there is more than one, rename or delete ALL of them.

Now, when you launch Word, it will look for normal.dot and since it can't find it, it will recreate a new clean one.

In XP, the normal.dot file is a hidden system file and may not show up when you do a search for it.
If you are unable to find it,
Go to My Computer
Click the Tools menu
Choose Folder Options.
Click on the View Tab
Put a check where it says, "Show hidden files and folders"
and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types"
and "Hide protected operating system files".

If you still can't find it, look here:
C:\Documents and Settings\<your user name>\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates

See if that helps.

Hello Mike,
I tried a Detect & Repair in Word 2003. I deleted normal.dot as well. I also tried winword.exe /a. The problem with saving files in Word persists. Do you know what I can do more to fix this problem?
Any ideas, suggestions are wellcome.
I do appreciate your time,
Johanna

reinstalled office pocket

From my quick check of the Web, I take it that this is some type of helper or add-in?
I also take it that it interfaces with Word in some manner.

Have you tried using Word with this particular app uninstalled?
Try uninstalling it and see if Word works OK.

Other than that, the only other thing I can think of is try an uninstall/reinstall.

Here is a stand alone wizard that may be of more use than the Add/Remove function. That is because the Microsoft Office programs do not completely remove everything from your system, so if the part of the program that was causing the problem has not been removed by uninstalling, it will still exist after reinstalling.

Dear Mike,

I uninstalled and reinstalled Office pocket the way you told. The same error messages reoccurred while saving files in Word.

I am grateful for your reply,

I uninstalled and reinstalled Office pocket the way you told

I think you misunderstood me.
Uninstall Office Pocket,
then run Word while Office pocket is uninstalled
and see if it works OK.

Try the suggestions here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/921541
and

Be careful, you will be editing the registry.
Make a back up of the registry before you begin.
Make a back up of any of the Word files.
Make a back up........

Dear Mike,

F-Secure help desk solved this problem. The hard disc format was fat32. When it was converted to ntfs, word could save files and worked without any problem.

Once again, thank you so much for your reply.

God bless you,
Johanna
