Word 2000 section break problem

I have a problem with Word 2000. I am creating a template so that other users can use this template to write letters etc to clients. When formatting the template and adjusting the margins, a section break appears and throws the margins that I just created to how they were before (not the margins I want).

So I have a couple of questions to see which one is possible

1) Is there any way that I can delete the section break without affecting the template? OR
2) Can I make the section break stay in place where it is especially when adding text?

If anyone could help this would be great!!!!!

You haven't said what type of section break you have, or why it was placed in the template.

Section breaks typically are inserted so that the page layout for page-breaking section breaks or section layout for non-page breaking section breaks, can be different before and after the break.

You can apply page layouts, such as margins both before and after the break.

If you started formatting the page after the section break was inserted, the formatting applied will not automatically apply to the pages before and the pages after the break.

Without knowing the details of your template, I suggest that you place the cursor in the section that is not formatted as you require, and apply your margins etc. using the same settings before and after the break.

Section breaks will move as text is added before them. You can't make a section break stay at say the end of page 1. If you add text to page 1, the section break will move, eventually being at the end of page 2 and so on as more text is added.

I can't say what effect removing the section break will have. Just save a copy of your template under a different name and remove the section break and compare both versions.

Hi, thanks for replying. The section break is a continous section break and the break is automatically inserted everytime I adjust the margins. I shall see how your suggestions go when formatting the template.

Thanks again!

re: and the break is automatically inserted everytime I adjust the margins

This is not normal - Word does not add section breaks when adjusting margins, unless you specify 'From this point forward' in the 'Apply to:' drop-down in the Margins tab of the page layout dialog box.

Did you by any chance base your template on an existing template - perhaps there is something in it that causes this action.

If you start with a new Word document and adjust the margins - do you get section breaks inserted.
