WINDOWS LIVE MAIL - categories failure (group of contacts)

January 14, 2018 at 10:21:50
Specs: Windows 8
Version 2012 (Build 16.4.3528.0331)

The message could not be sent.

Type an email address for one or more recipients in the
To: Cc: or Bcc: box.

Most always this
Error message using win8.1-64

Irritating work-around solution
(to a feature offered as "working") =
save message w/o recipients
close down WLM at least once/twice/more
then try, try again ?!?!?!?

Other than recreating a group "Category", no other changes nor solutions seems to work as well as this recreation!

MS = The best & richest in OS development?

That package is no longer supported but lots of folk still use it without difficulty. Friends of mine have been using it for years.

If you still have the download file saved, then double click it and run it in again - this sometimes fixes WLM faults. If you haven't got the file let me know and I can put it up on a free download website.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Since this came with win8.1-64 as one of the Essentials + am still getting auto windows updates + this fact published “Windows 8.1 falls under the same life cycle policy as Windows 8, and will reach end of Mainstream Support on January 9, 2018, and end of Extended Support on January 10, 2023.
then it follows it should still be working, buggy as it always was, usually after another update.

No fix then?
There's really no file mentioned so none to download. Perhaps you are introducing "file" to relate to some word in my Q, as if to put it another way?

Funny Google can't find a single soul that fixed all the WLM bugs, yet happily allow win10 to invade their lives.

Thanks for the response.
What OS will you be using with confidence and "no bugs"?

I am referring to the file that would be used to install WLM. Maybe it was already included in your Win 8.1 but I wasn't with mine and I had no way to know your particular situation. I've found a copy here:

Use the green button top right to download and "Save" the file. Double click the file and it will overwrite your WLM with the same version as you have. See if this helps.

By the way, you seem to be ranting off at me. I trust I'm mistaken because this website is nothing whatever to do with MS and I only came on here to try to help you.

Any perceived rant would be at MS, clearly in possession of time investment lost due to their greed in needing to sell "green lumber", then no idea how to fix it, perhaps later a patch will do it.

Your help is appreciated if that also is not clear.
Reinstalling WLM after seeing the lead Geek struggling with it Nov2013 when I was forced out of winXP into win8.1-64 by a) end of MS protection/support, b) powerful software required for biz ... leaves a file install out of the question. Even the remote chance one email that might be needed in court someday might be erased/lost is not worth it. Here's an article that seems to explain the MS bug they don't care to fix, as they peddle on to invest new green lumber to sell instead.

Many of my power software group have mutinied over to MAC once our software began offering it as an alternative OS. I can't = too many MS based office dependent softwares not as effective on MAC, some just can't work on it.

Just for info I have run the WLM file in again on several machines over the years. By not uninstalling WLM first your contacts and settings remain intact. It just replaces any files and registry entries that might have become corrupted for some reason or another.

I keep a copy because it is no longer available from MS and there's always the chance of it vanishing off websites.

Thanks, Derek
as time allows, might go to that extreme
while waiting for some fix simpler, however remote that may be
and thus continue my workarounds
a) close WLM, restart, recapture draft slowly (much slower mail than say Juno, old & Spartan) then send again to Catergory
b) open category in WLM, then in new message insert Category name in To:, then send

Ironic how it used to work early on, then an update upset it, then OK and now again with this new bug ...

Seems no one else out there cares about this ....

I have to agree it's a bit sad when MS Updates manage to screw up MS programs. I wish we could block "features" updates properly, or at least remove them if they mess things up.
