✔ Best Answer
First thing I would try, is a new mouse. See if that cures the problem.

What version of Excel are you using?

For 2007 you can try a Diagnostic:

Running Microsoft Office Diagnostics from within Excel/Word

Click the Microsoft Office button
Click on the Excel/Word Options button to bring up the Excel Options dialog box (at the bottom of window)
Click on the Resources button in the left hand pane
Click on the Diagnose button in the right hand pane
Click Continue
Click Run Diagnostics

Running Microsoft Office Diagnostics from the Start Menu

Click on the Start button
Click All Programs
Click Microsoft Office folder
Click Microsoft Office Tools
Click Microsoft Office Diagnostics
Click Continue
Click Run Diagnostics

Do you have the spread sheet in Page View?
Sometimes this will cause a problem,
switch back to Normal View and see what happens

Also, make sure your not in Extended Selection.
If you look in the lower left corner of spread sheet does
is say "Extended Selection"?
Press the F8 key to toggle Extended Selection.

The random (and unwanted) selection of multiple cells in Excel 2007 & 2010 is a known issue. Might be an issue with 2013 also. Typically, adjusting the zoom percentage solves the issue, at least temporarily.

Sometimes it just goes away by itself, for a while.

Try the slider in lower right corner of the Excel window. Slide it up or down and then back to wherever you want it.
