Solved Why do my Office 2016 documents revert to read-only?

August 18, 2017 at 11:31:27
Specs: Windows 10
I have taken steps I found online:
Disabling auto save
Disabling automatic back up
Changing permissions (but immediately after I change them and hit "apply" and "ok" they revert back to their previous status)

I am using a Lenovo L440 with Windows 10, Office 2016, and Bitdefender. I suspect it might be an issue with Bitdefender, but I could not find any information about conflicts. I have run Malwarebytes and Junkware Removal Tool. Malwarebytes says my system is clean and JRT did not resolve the issue.

Recently I repaired the Office installation, and that fixed it for a few weeks, but it has started happening again.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Depending on where you got this from, it might be the the Protection in Office 2016, that causes to open the document in Protected View Mode.

You can set this in Office 2016 / Options / Trust Center / Protected View.

Maybe that helps.
