Specs: Windows 7
In MICROSOFT OFFICE STARTER 2010 I can open multiple windows of WORD docs on screen but cannot open more than one Excel spreadsheet at a time on screen. Why is it so?

Not sure what you mean, but on the Windows toolbar, when you have multiple sheets open, the Excel icon should appear to have multiple icons "behind" it.
Hovering your mouse over it, it should display your opened files.

If that is not the case then try this:

On the Task Bar, Click File,
Click Options
Click on Advanced
Scroll down to the Display section
In the Display section, make sure the check box next to the line:
Show all windows in task bar is checked.

If that does not work, then it may be a limitation of the Starter edition

Thank you Mike

Yes, the files do appear under the Excel icon and I can select one to open. But I cannot select more than one to open at a time. Unlike a Word doc which will allow me to view more than one at a time. As you say it may be an option the Starter version does not support.

Looked at that site and discovered that my Excel Starter does not have a View/Window group on the ribbon.

Explains everything but can't understand why they allow multiple windows in Word Starter though and not in Excel Starter.
