Have you installed the Covid app?
https://www.health.gov.au/resources...

If so, face the camera lens at that code.

Where did you find or get that image/code?

They're used in all manner of systems nowadays as a means of logging in or similar; but if it suddenly arrived as it were on your system - be it computer, iPad/iPhone or other smart phone/tablet - unsolicited/unannounced... I'd be very careful and cautious about scanning it.

✔ Best Answer
I expected that you would get a quick response to this question
from someone who uses those codes, so I didn't respond myself
until now, when I see that the first two responses don't answer
the question.

It is called a QR code, which stands for "Quick Response".

It would be useful (wise even?) to know how this code arrived - before scanning and using it?

I generally avoid them - unless no option otherwise if I need to to use whatever it's associated with.

The photo linked from the OP appears to show that it was
in the instructions for something that can be connected to
a tablet, smartphone, or other device.

As Jeff stated, it's a QR code. If you have an iPhone, just open the camera app & point the camera at it. I just used mine & it took me to foxredeem.com for a free movie!

If you have an Android phone, you'll need a QR Reader app.

I hope all is well for you - in your city (staying inside where its safe) your answer is the best so far - & some sites are saying U use the basic phone camera to scan - this is completely wrong & we need to install an app called QR scanner as in this youtube example - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZB5...
I will get back here - once I done it , thank you..

Yup - an iPhone/iPad doesn't have a built-in QR scanner app. One has to download and install one.

"some sites are saying U use the basic phone camera to scan - this is completely wrong"

No, it's not completely wrong. iPhones have the app built-in, Androids need a QR Reader app installed. You never said which type phone you have.

"It's really easy to scan QR codes on your iPhone or iPad, because Apple built a QR code reader right into its camera up, so it's quite a simple process if you need to scan something."

How to scan QR code on iPhone

1. Open up the camera app on your iPhone or iPad
2. Hold the camera so the QR code is clearly visible
3. Your device will recognize the code, and show you a notification
4. Tap the notification to be taken to the destination of your QR code

Tak for that korrektion rider... In the past when I browsed for reading QR codes... the responses all seemed to say one had to install an app., on an iPhone/iPad.

I have have a 5s and just tested it via your link, et voila it does work without recourse to the app installed way back...
