the symbol â - 2000 has appeared in my email message; This is in connection with buying something. what does it mean?

Well, since it the "a" has a caret above it, maybe it's supposed to be this local currency:

That is French accented "a" - circonflexe:

So presumably you are dealing with French speaking site/vendor?

My best guess is that it is a misprint, possibly entered in error. There are many currency symbols but this is not one of them. The â character is used in a number of European languages and others as well.
