Without more specific info, all I can suggest is that you explore Conditional Formatting

A cell based formula cannot change the color of a cell.

You can try an IF statement with Conditional Formatting:

For example, select A1:A4 and put this formula in the Formula Is.. field under Format...Conditional Formatting, then select your pattern color.

=IF(A1=MIN($A$1:$A$4),TRUE,FALSE)

This will format the cell (or cells) which is the MIN of that rnage.
