Try repairing Word for a start - Open Word, click on the orb (top left), select 'Word Options' then 'resources' and then 'run Office Diagnostics'.

Ahah, that makes sense. Oops, can't open word starter or excel starter. Now what? Little blue 'orb' goes around and then goes away.

Hmm, sounds like Office Starter wasn't installed properly in the first place during setup. Try going to Start/Control Panel/Programs and features, look for Microsoft Office and see if the 'change' button appears - if it does then you should be able to run the repair from there. After that we may be struggling a bit because AFAIK Office Starter isn't available as a standalone program, it's only provided through the computer manufacturer in the hope that you'll move onto a commercial program.
