tiny squares (not in document) are printed

Specs: Windows 2010
I am printing a word document with formulae. On just one page of the document, tiny squares show up when printed. They are not visible on screen, in print preview, etc. There appear to be no hidden characters at those spots.

What version of Word do you have? Did you insert any page breaks in the document?

I'm guessing it's Word 2010 as 'Windows 2010' is shown in the specs.

Are these documents that you have created or are they ones that you have been given, possibly created in a different version of Word?

Start by clicking on the 'file' tab, choose 'options', then 'display' and under 'printing options' see if there is a tick in 'print hidden text' - if there is, remove it.

If the above doesn't work, try printing it to file, see if they show up

Thanks for all the suggestions, but the tiny squares show up only when I print directly from the Word 2010 document. They disappear when I save the page in RTF, PDF or XPS format. I've set the options to display all hidden characters and to NOT print any hidden characters. But these make no difference.

If its only that document, try copying the tex and pasting it into a new document. See if the new document does the same. If it doesn't, there's probably a glitch with just that one document.
