Thunderbird + GMail

I'm using thunderbird and I have a gmail email address. I really like using Thunderbird but the one thing I don't like is that when I check my mail with thunderbird it removes it from gmail so I can only see my mail on my local computer. I'd like to set it up (if possible) that checking my mail in thunderbird would not remove it in gmail. And what would be awesome is if I delete an email in thunderbird, it moves it to the trash in gmail.

Are you using POP3 or IMAP to get your mail?

I was using POP because I liked that I could get mail to go into my "local folder". I tried switching to IMAP but now all my gmail mail won't go into my local folder.

Figured it out! If you want to keep your POP settings, then all you have to do is go onto Gmail and under settings it says "when mail is accessed with POP:" you can set it to move it to trash and so any email that you access from your home computer just moves into your gmail trash which is fine for me.
