Table of Contents page numbering 1,2,3 instead of 1-1,2-1...

Specs: Windows XP
I have to instances of page numbering in all my headers. I used a website(http://www.computing.net/answers/office/different-numbering-on-same-page/9413.html) to help me do this. Now my problem is that my TOC's page numbers are now formatting as 1, 2, 3 instead of using the chapter number and page number of the chapter (ie 1-1, 2-1, 2-2, 2-3, 3-1, 3-2, 4-1).
Could you please tell me how to make my TOC's page numbers use the chapter number and page of the chapter number instead of the page number it is located on in the entire document?

Check out these 2 links.

I think between the 2 of them you should be able to do what you want. I'm not a Word expert, but they seem to fit the situation...

Thanks for the post but this does not help me. I've already figured out how to number the pages in the header the thing I need to know is how to change the way they are formatted in the Table of Contents.

One of the links says this...is it not what you are asking for?

You can use different numbering formats in different parts of your document.

For example, maybe you want i, ii, iii numbering for the table of contents and introduction, and you want 1, 2, 3 numbering for the rest of the document, and then no page numbers for the index.

Thanks again, but no. This article is referring to inserting page breaks to have different headers and footers with different page number formatting. What I am asking is the actual Table of Contents page Numbering format i.e.

my TOC currently formats like:
5 EARTHQUAKE ........................................ 14
(where 5 is the the Number of Heading 1, Earthquake is the heading 1 title, and 14 is the number of pages in respect to the total number of page in the document which is 23)

I would like it to look like:
5 EARTHQUAKE ........................................ 5-1

(where 5 is the the Number of Heading 1, Earthquake is the heading 1 title, and 5-1 is the number of heading 1 and the page number for that section only it falls on)

The TOC automatically uses the page numbering format I've specified for the rest of the document for it's numbering. I would like to know how to change the automatic formatting of the TOC's page numbers so that they include the chapter number with heading style 1 and a hyphen and start at 1 instead of not including a chapter number and continuing from the previous section.

As far as I know that aren't any members of this forum that are that deep into Word.

Try here, but be as specific as you were in your latest response. The more detail you provide, the better chance you'll get an answer that fits your needs.
