Solved SUMIF with Data Validation Boxes

November 8, 2015 at 14:19:35
Specs: Windows 10
I have a set of drop down boxes with the following data in it:
CON C-TRB
CON C-TRB1
CON C-TRB2
CON C-TRB3
CON C-TRB4

I have a Total field I would like filled with each occurrence of say CON C-TRB1. I tried "*CON C-TRB1*" within the SUMIF and it always sums 0, what am I doing wrong? Thanks!

I don't understand what you mean by " filled with each occurrence of say CON C-TRB1"

SUMIF is used to SUM a range of values that either meet a specified criteria, such as >5 or =2, or to SUM a range of values where a corresponding range contains the specified criteria. For example, the formula =SUMIF(B2:B5, "John", C2:C5) SUMs only the values in the range C2:C5, where the corresponding cells in the range B2:B5 equal "John."

Since you can't SUM "CON C-TRB1" because it is not a value, I don't understand what you are trying to do.

Are you trying to count each occurrence of "CON C-TRB1"? Perhaps COUNTIF is what you should be using?
