sum function fault

Dell / Optiplex gx270...
April 10, 2009 at 11:46:47
Specs: Windows XP
I cannot figure out why my totals are not coming up right. I have 2 identical functions with the exception of a word substitution (see examples below) but one works and the other will not. I cannot get the brackets to surround my function.

(IF(('Devices Tested Summary'!B8:B62="Smoke Detector")*('Devices Tested Summary'!I8:I62="Pass"),1,0))-this one does not work

(IF(('Devices Tested Summary'!B8:B62="Heat Detector")*('Devices Tested Summary'!I8:I62="Pass"),1,0))-this one does work

What do you mean the function "works"?

You used the word "total". Are you trying to determine the number of occurrence of "Pass" for each device?

re: I cannot get the brackets to surround my function.

Ctrl-Shift-Enter adds the brackets, but I don't think that's your main problem.
