Solved Specified text in one cell to other cells(All text related)

May 13, 2014 at 15:09:30
Specs: Windows 7
Cell A1 contains "Name_ is going to the _____"
I want to change the Name_ in A1 and have it change the name in other cells (A2,A3) without modifying the other text in the cells. Same applies to the underscores at the end.

I've been using find and replace utilizing _z1_ for names and _p1_ for places.
Is there an easier way to do this?
Trying to figure out if FIND and/or SUBSTITUTE would work currently.
Been using Office for 3 weeks

Sorry still don't understand what your trying to do.
Please understand that I can not see your worksheet from where I'm sitting,
so you have to explain everything in detail, using Column Letters and Row Numbers.
and describe what it looks like before and what you want it do look like after.
It would be helpful if you would post a short example of your spread sheet.

I've taken to using find a replace but I'm sure there's an easier way.

There are formulas that can do a search,
and there are formula that can do a replace
but they each require another cell to work with.
In other words in Cell A1 you have the text string:

                A
1) Name_ is going to the _____

and you want to replace the string Name, in cell A1 you can't do it.
You would need to place a formula in cell B1 such as:

=REPLACE(A1,1,4,"Rohl")

Then cell B1 would look like:

                A B
1) Name_ is going to the _____ Rohl_ is going to the _____

Changing the contents of cell A1, in place, requires the Search/Replace function on the task bar, or a short macro.

Sorry, I don't quite understand what it is your trying to accomplish.

If you could post a short example of your worksheet, with a before and after it may help.

Read this How-To, it explains how to use the pre tags when posting:

As Mike indicated, we need more information/some examples.

If the entry in one cell is going to impact the value in other cells automatically, then either a formula or Macro is going to be required. It would be impossible for us to offer a solution without some details related to your process.

The Find and Replace process can be replicated with a macro to eliminate the need to do it manually, but again, we need more details.

CRE1/2/3/4 I replace once a day. C1Z/C2Z zones change every 30 minutes and are not the same. CAZ/CBZ/CCZ items are changed once a day. I've taken to using find a replace but I'm sure there's an easier way.
I'm trying to take a cell, say A1, and have A1 default to other cells with specific substitutes. Sorry if it doesn't make sense, just learning excel. I'll figure it out with a little push in the right direction hopefully.
Thanks

CRE1 in zone C1Z with CAZ items; CRE2 in zone C2Z with CBZ items; CRE3 in zone C3Z with CCZ items; CRE4 in zone C4Z with CDZ items. All items reported.

Each line has a time before it, 815, 930 etc. Can't get it to display. Column A is the time, Column B is the sentence.

Hope that helps give a better idea of what I'm trying to accomplish. Still working on it myself, see if I can't come up with something.
