smartphone that will sync with outlook 2010

Specs: Windows Vista
Upgraded to Outlook 2010 and now my wife's Palm won't sync. Have given up on that, but after much work cannot find any PDA that will work with Outlook 2010 (especially calendaring functions) without an exchange server. Help?

Any phone running Windows 6.5 will do it as it has Outlook mobile included - Windows 7 phones don't however so if a sales person says they do, ignore them. I use an HTC HD2 and it's a great bit of kit as both a phone and a pda. I have also seen Android phones syncing with Outlook using a 3rd party app, but it isn't as seamless as Win6.5.

Jonr, two more quick questions: first, are you sure 6.5 works with Outlook 2010? We are finding a lot of "noise" that it worked with prior versions of Outlook, but not 2010. Second, should we be considered that 6.5 will soon become "obsolete" like the Palm software did? Any thoughts (even speculation) you have on the latter point would be useful since you seem to know your stuff in this area. Thanks.

As far as I know the problem only occurs with 64bit Outlook. 32bit will sync with Windows Mobile Device Centre (and so Win mobile 6.5). 32bit Outlook is the default install and works fine on 64bit Windows.

From what I can gather, MS don't seem to want to include outlook syncing with Windows mobile 7 at all - I haven't had any responses from Microsoft when I've emailed them and other commentators seem to have drawn a blank as well - Microsoft's stock answer is to change to Hotmail accounts - essentially Cloud-based, for want of a better description.

Long-term I'm almost certainly going to look at Android with one of the apps that do the syncing - luckily there are a lot of developers out there who can write good stuff for Android.
