Hi, any Word gurus out here? I am making a resume for a friend and he told me that after he posted it on Monster.com and reviewed it, his work experience wasn't aligning. Instead of showing up as,

WORK EXPERIENCE
1999-Present XYZ Corp.New York, NY Procurement Specialist
1998-1999 XXX Inc. New York, NY Assistant Buyer

It shows up as,

WORK EXPERIENCE
1999-Present XYZ Corp.New York, NY Procurement Specialist
1998-1999 XXX Inc. New York, NY Assistant Buyer
1997-1998 XNT Corp, New York, NY Inside Sales
1996-1997 LMT Cprp., New York, NY Inside Sales

When I checked the resume I created for him in Word in Office 2010, it looked fine and printed fine. I had him print from Monster hoping that it only appeared that way on Monster. However, it printed with everything not aligned. Is there a way to justify the text so that it will be lined up?

Thanks!

I don't see any difference between the 2 formats that you posted. However, I know why the formatting did not hold in this forum. Click on the blue line at the end of this post as read the instructions on how to maintain formatting in this forum.

As for the Monster site, if you DAGS for something like resume not formatted monster.com you will see some hits from others that have had the same problem. I didn't read them all, but the impression was given that it's a common problem and that monster wants you to use their resume creation process.

There was also some mention that when HR folks search monster for keywords, it doesn't matter what the resume looks like as long as the keywords can be found. It sounded like the resume that actually gets downloaded will be the original document, complete with formatting.

You might want to do your own Google searches and see if you find any other tips or tricks.

Good luck!

Did they give any reason for the loss of formatting when when a Word document is uploaded? Did they say that it is a normal occurrence for which there is no fix?

Hi, no they actually ignored my question. They posted what appeared to be a copy and paste response that explained how to post a resume. I haven't checked their forum yet but I spoke with other users who said that monster has issues with the site.
