Remove ComAd-ins from toolbar in MSWord 2003

October 16, 2010 at 00:55:47
Specs: Windows XP
I uninstalled Dragon Naturally Speaking from my computer. When launching MSWord 2003 after the uninstall I got a dialogue box "C:\Documents and Settings\UserA\ApllicationData\Microsoft\Addin\C:\ProgramFiles\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking10\Programs\dgnword.dll is not a valid Add in"

I clicked OK twice and the dialogue box disappeared. I right clicked on the MSWord>>customize>>Tools..Com Ad-ins and dragged the Com Ad-ins to the toolbar. The dialogue box is still appearing.

I would like to know how to clear the Com Ad-ins from the toolbar. If I click on it the dialogue box is launched again. I also want to clear the .dll from my computer. Do I have to go in the registry? Any ideas please?

I have just looked in the registry

and dgnword.dll or anything connected with Dragon Naturally Speaking or Nuance is not there.

Would I be better uninstalling MS Office 2003 completely and reinstalling?

Try a Detect & Repair

On the Task Bar,
Detect & Repair

You may need the original install media.

See if that helps.

Tried the LIS Tool Mike without success. I cant use the original installation CD to try a repair as I don't have it. It "disappeared" a couple of years ago when we moved house and hasn't turned up since. The thing I have to try and do is get rid of the Com Add-in from the toolbar as I think that would solve the problem. If I right click on it it just shows the usual drop down menu when you right click on the toolbar. A left click brings up the dialogue box again and no other options.

I'm at a complete loss with this

Solved the problem. Did a system restore to the day before I uninstalled Dragon Naturally Speaking (not trying to get the program back!) and the dialogue box has disappeared when launching MSWord. The Com-Ad-ins is still showing on the toolbar but it is now empty. Many thanks for your efforts on my behalf and your help, which is much appreciated.
