I posted this problem just before Christmas but so far it has comfounded all you brianiacs. LOL. I'm still having the same problem trying to read my deleted files using Recova. I keep getting an error message telling me to check the file permissions - I have no idea how to do that.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I'm on Win 7, but try this:

Select your file and right click
At the bottom of the popup select Properties
Then select the Security Tab
Then select the Advance button down the bottom
Then select the Permissions Tab
You should have Three lines for the file permission:
System
Admin
User Name

They should all be set to ALLOW

If they are not then click the Change Permissions button
and edit the lines.

Thanks for the reply, Mike. Unfortunately, when I right click on a file and click on Properties the only tab there is General so there is no way of changing the Permissions. Any other ideas?

What do you mean by it opens in Windows Default ?

Try using Notepad or Wordpad, both should be under Start/Programs/Accessories
