Problems in downloading documents

Microsoft Windows xp professional w/sp2

Specs: Windows XP, P4,2.8GHz,1GB RAM
Whenever i download documents of PDF format or MSword type,,they are downloaded in "login_3" description.Few days ago,i found some files like notepad.exe affected by virus and i unknowingly deleted them (there was also another file which i forgot) .Please help me as i need the books and other articles to be downloaded from the net.

I have no idea with "login_3" is.

When you download the files, are the extensions correct?
When do they get corrupted?
How are you downloading?
Have you tried reinstalling Adobe & Word?

Thank you very much for your kind suggestion..i am downloading some books from net by DAP or ORBIT.The books gets downloaded but the icon appears on monitor with "Default [ASPX file]" or "login [file]" and i am unable to open it..Few weeks back, i unknowingly deleted 2 virus affected files out of which one was 'notepad.exe"..Is this affecting my downloading process??..I am able to download songs,videos,softwares etc but not books..Do i have to reinstall Word,Adobe and Notepad???Please help!!

The error messages would seem to indicate a OS problem.
I do not have the knowledge to help.
You can try doing a restore to a point before you had the problems and ask your question in the Windows XP fourm where you might get more knowledgeable assistance.
