Prints garbage after several pages

Microsoft Word 2007
July 1, 2010 at 04:46:16
Specs: Windows 7
When I print documents with several images, after several pages the printer seems to get in an endless loop printing a few ascii characters on a page and nothing else for up to several hundred pages (until I delete the print job). If I save the document as a .pdf file it will print correctly. The error will happen at the same place in the document, so there must be a funny code being inserted. This has happened with many different documents.

I have updated the printer driver (Xerox business printer) but it hasn't seemed to help.

I would take the file(s) to another machine and try to print them from there.

That might help narrow down a corrupt document/application vs. a hardware/OS/driver problem on your machine.

A. Did these documents print correctly previously or have they never printed correctly.
B. Have you changed your PC, operating system or printer recently.

Two tests to help identify whether the problem is with Word or with the operating system/printer:

1. Take a document that stops printing normally.
Note the last page that prints correctly (what text etc. it contains), and how many pages printed correctly.
Delete several pages at the start of the document in the part that prints normally.
Print the document again.
Is the last normal page the same page as before (same text etc.) or is it a later page. Also how many pages printed correctly.

2. Take a copy of the original document and see if someone else can print it normally - preferably someone with a different operating system (not Windows 7).

Let us know what happens.
