Outlook setup suggestion..

February 18, 2010 at 12:25:30
Specs: Windows XP
I have a user that has this problem. When she opens Outlook and creates a new message and tries to begin typing in the name of a contact, Outlook doesn't automatically suggest the name she's typing. She has to manually enter the name, or select it from the global address book. Once she has sent a message to a user, Outlook will then "remember" the contact the next time she sends a message to them, but only if she leaves outlook open. Once she closes outlook, the same thing will happen the next time. Does that make sense? I've looked quite a bit online for a solution, but can't seem to find anything.

I've done:
Under Tools, Options, E-mail options, Advanced Email Options I find two possible related items:
1. Automatic Name Checking
2. Suggest names while completing To, Cc and Bcc fields.

And I've cached my profile.
Tools>Account setting> click on microsoft exchanged> and selected "use cached exchanged mode.

Any help is appreciated.

Do you mean you've selected the Cache mode for the user?

Auto-suggest and Contacts are not the same thing. If your user has entries in the Contacts folder, then then all she needs to type if the "File As" name, and the field will complete with the associated address.

If she really wants to use the auto-suggest to avoid typing in email address that aren't in Contacts (or the GAL), try creating a new Outlook profile. Make sure to delete the ost file from her local computer profile before creating the new Outlook profile.

She needs to keep her old emails. Does that mean if I give her a new profile her emails would be deleted?

No, it doesn't. :)

I just saw your "Outlook 2009" I'm not familiar with that version.
