Outlook not storing passwords. Any Ideas

December 29, 2011 at 07:50:52
Specs: Windows XP & Vista, 2Ghz/ 500Mb
Outlook 2002 SP3 on Vista accessing via LAN and broadband modem.

I copied all my settings over from Win 98 (yes) SP2 (yes) on dial-up (yes) which works a treat.

The new set-up asks for a password (or twice) once every time I open for each account on send/receive.

Various settings of receive before send, save password/don't, ports 25 & 587 on send, 110 on receive. Within "accounts"
various authentication scenarios, save in the account/not save within account. Same setting/not same for send and receive.

Each subsequent tx/rx uses the saved password from the first dialog/request which is lost on exit from Outlook.

I use (currently) three accounts all via the same domain name (mine) and on Win 98/Outlook 2000 it happily works with more accounts that differ more. passwords can be the same in some cases.

Any Ideas?

Actually, there is a compatibility issue with Outlook 2002 (which is included in Office XP) not saving passwords on Vista or Windows 7, here is a link to a fix:

Solution is - do nothing
Unless I can wade through Outlook Macros without the benefit of the help file.
