Specs: Microsoft Windows XP Pro, pentium d 3ghz / 4g ram
recently the user noticed his contacts where
not adding to his rather large list of them.

It turns out something caused their to be a
second contact folder.

The original folder is located in the "personal
folders", and the new one seems to reside in
the users mail box folders.

I need to delete the newer of the two folders,
and ensure that any new contacts are added
to the proper folder.

Which Contacts does the user want to keep? The ones on the mail box folders (I assume you mean Exchange Mailbox) or the ones in the pst file? Regardless, highlight the ones that you want to move, then move them to the location where the user wants them. If there are duplicates, Outlook will present options to update/append the duplicate entries.

As for the default Contacts and adding to it, that would need to be set in the Address Book options, and select the proper Contacts folder for entry storage.

Two contact folders are now listed on the left hand side upon viewing the "contacts" menu.

When highlighted and right clicked, then choose properties.

The original had 7 tabs at the top, the new one has only 4.
Neither one has the option to be removed.

I did go to the Contact options menu, and the new one is from
exchange yes, and the old one was listed to be located in his
"personal folders".

Is there no way to truncate them, or at least ensure that all
contacts are added to both lists when created.

I already told you how to combine them and to set a default Contacts folder.
