Solved OpenOffice support, lost or deleted document

September 9, 2014 at 10:46:49
Specs: Windows 7
I created an OpenOffice document and saved it several times. It did not save in OpenOffice, was never listed in "recent documents". I found it saved in WordPad. I never was able to locate it in my documents folders, including those under program files. It has disappeared. I checked the recycle bin. It was not there. I went into the registry to restore previously deleted documents to the recycle bin. It was still not there. I tried numerous document/file recovery/undelete softwares, including the one OpenOffice recommended, Recuva. No results. What are my other options, if any? I need the information in this document today to know how much to pay my employees. This is very urgent! Please get back to me ASAP! Thank you for your support! l

✔ Best Answer
If you remember the name of the file, have you tried doing a search of your HD?

BUT, Before you do the search,

Click Start
Click Control Panel,
Select Appearance and Personalization
Select Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Under Advanced settings
click Show hidden files, folders, and drives
click OK

That way, if the file got saved in some out of the way location you have a better chance of finding it.

Good advice given in #1.

However these two comments confuse me:

"I found it saved in WordPad"
Wordpad is a program not a place (folder).

"my documents folders, including those under program files"
Never heard of a documents folder in Program Files.

Maybe you can clarify - thanks.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Wordpad default is txt format. As stated above, have you tried searching for the filename rather than just looking in your Documents?

What exactly did you change in the Registry?
