March 25, 2017 at 07:42:29
Specs: Windows 7, 1.86GHz/3.00 GB
When I want to create a new folder for documents, the 'New Folder' icon appears but does not respond when I select it. Any insight would be most helpful. Thank you.

Just to clarify - do you mean it doesn't open to a blank page?

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

When you 1st create the folder, the name "New folder" will be highlighted in blue. You either have to accept "New folder" as the name, or rename it to what you want. You have to accept the name (click anywhere in the white space) before you can use the folder.

Hi Derek, thanks for your response. To answer your question, no --
when I suggest nothing happens when clicking on 'New Folder' (as in creating one to organize my docs in 'My Documents' main folder) literally NOTHING happens. This means I simply cannot create any new folder so I am left leaving those documents among the many listed. Hope this helps clarify my conundrum. Thanks again!

Yes, I do understand that. It's just I cannot even create one (details above). Thanks very much for your great info!

Is it just one particular place that you can't create a new folder,
or everywhere? Where have you tried?

What happens if you right-click inside the root folder, then select New, then Folder?

Doing the best I can here... And remember, there's always more than one path to success. :)

There are a couple of options here:
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum...
The first one (link) seems closer to your situation.

Create a System Restore point before doing so just to be on the safe side.

System Restore would be another option - it keeps your own stuff and usually works well.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Thanks Jennifer. I just did as you suggested and right-clicked on the root folder. The only selection from 'New" was 'Briefcase'. 'Folder' was not even listed as an option here.

Jeff - that's a great question. I've only tried to create new folders from 'My Documents' root menu. I don't even know where else in Windows there's the same option. Actually, now that I think of it, when on my Desktop and I want to create a new folder, the 'Folder' option doesn't show from the list after I right-click and then select 'New'.

See my #7.

The second option gives a download to restore the Folder entry - see To Remove or Restore "Folder"

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Thanks, Derek, for the link -- from what I read, it's the same issue I'm having. I'll give it a try and will pop back here to let you know if it worked.
