Nested if statement

Specs: Microsoft
I need a "if" statement that will allow me to pull back pass or check for multiple cells. For example: if J3 = pass than pull back "pass" in cell a3 or if J3 ='s check pull back "check" in a3, if z3 = pass than pull back "pass" in a3 or if z3 ='s check pull back "check"a3...and so on....

There's a problem with your question.

What do you want in A3 if J3 = pass and Z3 = check?

You can't get 2 answers from one function.

Sorry for the confusion. What I need is for if columns A, B, and C don't all have pass in it column D will populate Check. If A, B, and C all have pass, column D will populate Pass.

A B C D
pass fail pass
pass pass pass

How does that even relate to the question in the first post?

There are many ways to do what you want. Here's 2 ways:

=IF(NOT(AND(A1="pass",B1="pass",C1="pass")),"check","pass")

or

=IF(SUM((A1="pass"),(B1="pass"),(C1="pass"))=3,"pass","check")
