i have 3 columns and 25 rows of data ...and i want to color format column A cells based on a number value, say any cell greater than 25 in column B and a specific TEXT value in column C

Read up on Conditional Formatting in the Excel Help files. You can set up Rules (or Conditions, depending on what version of Excel you are running) such as:

=AND(B1>25, C1="MyText")

Whenever the Rule evaluates to TRUE the Conditional Formatting will be applied.
